Product Review: Arizona Rx Energy Herbal Tonic

Arizona's Rx Energy Herbal Tonic is a guilty pleasure of mine.  I usually give in to this temptation once or twice a week at the gas station in the morning before work.  I have found it is a great pick me up that I will sip through out the morning to noon at work.  It is the big 23.5 ounce can with a recommended 3 servings at approximately 8 ounces a serving.  But I don't know anyone who follows that recommendation.

Some of the good stuff...  The beverage does contain a good bit of caffeine but it is rather balanced since I never notice any jitters.  It has a really good taste with just a little of that energy drink bite.  Its taste is a blend of citrus, pineapple, mango, and probably more subtle flavors.  It has the benefits of green tea, fruit juices, Panax ginseng, Siberian ginseng, guarana, schisandra, and some vitamins, according to the label.

The bad stuff...  This drink is loaded with sugar, specifically, high fructose corn syrup.  In just one 8 ounce serving it has 29 grams of sugar, making almost 87 grams of sugar total.  This is a lot of sugar and a lot of empty calories (300 grams) to be taken from one source at any part of your day.  If you are concerned with your calorie consumption or are trying to lose weight than this beverage will hurt you significantly.

Last note...  This drink should not be a part of daily consumption.  It should be a treat or a last resort if you are ill prepared.  A better solution would be brewing your own type of green tea, mixing some fruit juices, caffeine powder, sweeteners, and other desired ingredients to make a lower calorie more potent energy packed beverage.  Be on the look out for my own blend in the future.
